Itinerary for the Trek
Friday 5th - tour of Delhi (free day before start of Trek)
Saturday 6th - briefing on Trek, briefing on Save the Children and welcome lunch and press briefing
- sightseeing trip of Red Fort and Silver Market
- overnight train to Pathankot
Sunday 7th - transfer to Dharamsala
- evening visit to H.H. Dalai Lama residence and monastery
Monday 8th - Trek starts (5 days)
- McLeod Ganj to Kareri Village (2050m) 14 km
- walk past Tibetan Children's village to Satobari village, then steep descent to Ghera village. Stream crossing and then ascend to Kareri village.
Tuesday 9th - Kareir Village to Bahl Village (2300m) 12 km
- Gradual descent to Rawa village then steep ascent through mixed forest to camp near Bahl village.
Wednesday 10th - Bahl to Triunt (2975m) 12 km
- steep ascent through mixed forest. Triunt is an alpine meadow on top of a ridge with good views of the peaks of Dhaula Dhar and Kangra valley
Thursday 11th - Triund to Laka (3500m) 10 km
- gradual ascent to Laka Got, site of a temporary shepherd summer camp at the snout of a small glacier. Walk over the glacier to reach Lahes cave. Lahes cave is an overnight shelter for the shepherds going over the mountain. Return to Triunt for camping.
Friday 12th - Triund to McLeod Ganj
- trek over a grassy ridge then steep descent through Laheta village and then to Bhagsu Nag village.
- 15 mile drive back to hotel and celebratory meal with local folk music.
Saturday 13th - free morning shopping and exploration of Dharamsala
- transfer to Pathankot for overnight train to Delhi
Sunday 14th - transfer to Calcutta (flight)
- Save the Children briefing
Monday 15th - project visits (half of group)
- sightseeing (half of group)
Tuesday 16th - project visits and sightseeing
- start travel home evening of 16th.
