Save the Children Project - Tanzania

Case study – Tanzania
It is 8.30 in the morning and Mnolela clinic has been opened for an hour already. This is the nearest clinic for 11,000 people living in and around Mnolea.
Chalis is in charge, he is an assistant medical officer. There are no doctors in village clinics such as Mnolela: there are not enough in the country and they usually work in big town hospitals.
With the help of nurses, Edisa and Riuka, Chalis will ensure that all patients are seen today.
During the day, they will carry out check-ups for pregnant mothers, vaccinate children, give anti-malarial drugs or oral re-hydration for diarrohoea. Severe cases that cannot be dealt with at the clinic will be referred to the regional hospital.
The Save 100,000 lives programme helps clinics such as this one in Mnolea to deliver a quality service. By checking that vaccines are kept at the right temperature, by supporting training for health staff, we can ensure that children are cared for in the best way possible.
